Poems, prayers and art that open our whole being to greater stories of who we are, what we love and the practices of rewilding our imaginations.
Wilderness and Words: An Exploration of Belonging
During the COVID times, I began to inhabit the poet in my nature. I wrote poems when the moment demanded that I write, and the work that flowed through me was a mixture of processing the variety of experiences, conversations and relationships of the times, alongside making sense of the inner world that was changing within me to meet the challenges.
Over the 4 years since, I have developed a style of poetry which explores what it is to be human, and feel a deep connection and belonging to what is inside us, and outside the borders of our physical bodies.
Since the beginning of 2023, I began to feel that at 42/43, I am reaching the half way point in life, and these poems are the gift that has emerged from my explorations of being a father, community member, worker bee, butterfly, dancer and adventurer.
In the summer of 2023, I worked with a friend and film maker Daniel Martins, to collate a series of poems and turn a few of them into short films, as part of a work experience week with my son and a friends daughter. This time we spent together, in conversation as we walked the wilderness and the city landscape of Bath, reminded us all how important deep, long form, intergenerational conversations are.
In the summer of 2024, as we met another transition moment in our family lives, I reflect on how the poems have now become prayers and offerings towards to collective imagination work I am involved in. Ceilidhs, rites of passage, exploring eldership and more.
Below you will find the two curated collections of work that I have put together, plus a number of other poems that I choose to share. I hope they nourish you, as they do me and my friends.
The untaming and rewilding of belonging
This is a series of 12 poems, which welcome ourselves and our experiences, our ancestors, the world in which we are one part, and which includes all elements of an animate life. These poems are experiences, to be taken into wilder places, where you can find time and space for yourself to feel the work and reflect on what is alive in them for you.
